Designing and building places around the people who live there.
Q Home & Garden brings together design, construction knowledge and a long-standing understanding of homes, gardens and the relationship between them.
Every project begins with a person, a property and a reason for considering change.
Sometimes that reason is practical. Sometimes it is about space, the connection with the garden, a change in circumstances or simply how the property feels to live in. We bring together design and construction knowledge so that the human reason for the project remains connected to the practical decisions needed to deliver it.
Homes and gardens belong in the same conversation.
A home does not stop at the external wall, and a garden is not simply the space that surrounds it. Views, access, levels, light, drainage, materials and the way people move between inside and outside connect the two. We consider those relationships together so that the property can feel more coherent and individual decisions can support the place as a whole.
Experience that connects design with construction.
Q Home & Garden is led by David Strows and Tibor Pokai, each bringing around three decades of experience across landscape construction, building and property projects. That experience allows us to consider ideas alongside the realities of the property, the site, the materials and the way the work will be constructed.
We start by listening.
Clients come to projects at different points. Some already have drawings and a clear brief. Others know what is not working but are less certain about the answer. We begin by understanding what has brought you to the project, how you live, what you would like to change, what the property needs to provide and how you want it to feel. Not every answer needs to exist in the first conversation.
Design, construction and evidence belong together.
A successful design needs to work in practice as well as on paper. Our construction experience allows us to consider the site, structure, drainage, access, materials, services and buildability while the design is still developing. Standards and technical evidence do not replace judgement, design or experience. They help provide a sound basis for decisions and a clear record of what has been agreed and why.
The people behind the practice
David Strows
Director
David brings around thirty years of experience in landscape construction and property projects, with a particular interest in the relationship between design, practical construction and the people who use a space.
His approach begins with understanding what a client wants their home and garden to provide. The aim is to develop places that feel right for the property and support everyday life, with the construction knowledge needed to turn the design into a finished space.
Alongside his work at Q, David serves as Chairman of the Association of Professional Landscapers. His wider industry work includes helping professionals understand and apply British Standards, developing continuing professional education and supporting clearer expectations of professional practice.
His experience in mediation and expert witness work also informs his attention to clear specifications, responsibilities and project records. Within Q, that perspective supports an approach built on explanation, considered decisions and care in delivery.
Tibor Pokai
Director
Tibor brings around thirty years of construction experience, spanning landscape work, building and the practical delivery of property projects.
His background includes managing the construction of architect-designed homes before his work with Q. That experience brings an understanding of how drawings, technical details, materials and individual trades come together on site.
Within the practice, Tibor contributes construction leadership, practical planning and close attention to how the work is carried out. His focus includes the sequence of construction, coordination of the team and the details that influence both the finished appearance and long-term performance.
Working alongside David, he helps connect the intentions of the design with the realities of building it. Their partnership brings complementary experience to decisions throughout a project, from the first discussion to the final details.
Design, construction and evidence belong together.
The finished appearance is one part of a successful project. The work beneath and behind it matters too.
Our decisions draw on relevant standards, technical information, manufacturer requirements and the conditions of the site. Clear specifications, appropriate checks and records help connect what has been agreed with what is built.
We explain significant construction choices in straightforward language, including details that may no longer be visible when the work is complete.
